Assistant Superintendents of Police, Hong Kong.

The Inspector General of Police recommends Mr. T. E. CLUNIE, Acting Superintendent of Police who is at present on leave in the United Kingdom, for the first vacancy. He was informed by cable of the intention to recommend him for one of the vacancies and wasinstructed to advise the Colonial Office, through the Palestine Police London Office, of his wishes should he be offered the appointment. Mr. Clunie is the only Gazetted Police Officer below the age of 30 years in the Palestine Police Force who can be recommended for the appointment.
The following are Mr. CLUNIE's particulars :-
(i) Mr. T. E. CLUNIE, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Age 29, Single.
Clunie enlisted in the Palestine Force as a constable in April, 1939 and was promoted through the ranks to his present rank in April 1947. He is a fully trained policeman with experience in the general duties and C.I.D. branches of the Police Force.
He is intelligent and capable and has shown a facility in learning the local languages and should, with experience in commissioned rank, become a valuable police officer,

Mr. Clunie's salary is in the scale LP450 x 30 750 plus expatriation allowance. His present emoluments are (a) salary P.480,. (b) expatriation allowance IP.150, (c) uniform allowance IP 18 - a total of LP648 per annum in addition to which he is in receipt of a variable high cost of living allowance,
For the second vacancy the Inspector General has recommended the officers mentioned below in order of their suitability.
(ii) Mr. W. SEGRUE, Acting Assistant Superintendent.
Age 32, married, one child.
Segrue enlisted in the Police Force as a constable in February 1937, and was promoted through the ranks to his present rank in April 1947. He is a fully trained and well qualified policeman with experience in the general duties, mounted, traffic, C.I.D., and Police Mobile Force branches of the Police Force, and is at present performing the duties of Personal Assistant to the Inspector General on temporary secondment from the Political Section of Headquarters C.I.D. He is a very able police officer with a keen interest in all branches of his profession and has, in the opinion of the Inspector General a very promising future in the Service,
Segrue's emoluments are in the same scale as those of Clunie. Being married however he is in receipt of housing allowance at the rate of 82 per annum and his total annual emoluments are IP.730 to which must be added the variable high cost of living allowances.
